My wife has an eMAc that has developed a problem. Any time she tries to download a file from the web, absolutely nothing happens. This is true for both Firefox and Safari and applies to any type of file (picture, game etc.) On the other hand, updates from Apple download fine and my laptop downloads fine when plugged into her cable modem. She is running the latest version of OS X and the start of the problem does not seem to coincide with any new software being installed.
Any ideas as to what might be the cause?
Thanks

Macbook Pro Won't Download Apps
I noticed this problem yesterday when trying to download Mavericks. I don't use the Mac App Store too often, but this was the first time it never worked for me. I clicked on the Free Upgrade button next to Mavericks, then clicked Install, then it said Downloading. I went to the Purchased tab. To download High Sierra, simply go to the App Store and check the sidebar on the right. If it cannot be found there, you can always search for it. A word of warning, I currently have a late 2011 MacBook Pro running High Sierra and it does not run very well so you should make sure your Mac is running at its best before upgrading.
Do you need to download osx on new macbook air. Before you upgrade, we recommend that you back up your Mac. If your Mac is running OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later, you can upgrade directly to macOS Big Sur. You’ll need the following: OS X 10.9 or later; 4GB of memory; 35.5GB available storage on macOS Sierra or later. Some features require an Apple. Control Center for Mac. Instantly access the controls you use most — like Wi-Fi and Bluetooth — and new controls to play music and enable Dark Mode for your display. Designed just for Mac, the new Control Center lets you add controls and drag favorites to the menu bar to customize it just for you.
